The LED screen is actually an LCD, but instead of having a regular CCFL backlight, it uses light emitting diodes (LEDs) as the light source behind the screen. The LED is more energy efficient and much smaller than CCFL. A light emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that emits light when an electric current passes through it. Light is produced when current-carrying particles (called electrons and holes) combine inside a semiconductor material.
